Hi everyone, welcome back to another q and a series.. Happy Wednesday!! I hope you are enjoying these little series as much as i love creating it!
Today, i have got the lovely Talia Maizels involved talking all things youtube and Disney. I adore Talia’s channel so much and i couldn’t think of a better person other than Talia to do a q and a with. I dm’ed her on instagram and she messaged me back, she is such a lovely lil soul! Lets find out a bit more about Talia..
Q: Hi Talia, thank you so much for collaborating with me on this blog post, can you tell my readers a bit about yourself?
A: You’re more then welcome, thank you for asking me! So I’m 20 years old from Kent and I’m a YouTuber. I’ve been doing YouTube for the past 2 years and I’m currently living in Paris!
Disney and paris chats:
Q; first of all a big congratulations for getting a job at Disney, that is such a big achievement, what are you doing in Disney for 6 months?
A: Aw thank you so much! So I can’t really share what I’m doing at Disney but I’m really enjoying the experience of living in Paris 🙂
Q: How did it all come about? Did you approach them, did they approach you?
A: Basically, all the Disney parks around the world hold multiple auditions throughout the year to become cast members. I just thought why not, I love going to auditions even if it’s just for experience and I got given the job there and then!
Q: Of course it’s going to be an amazing chapter, what are you looking forward too the most about being in Paris and working at Disney?
A: I’m most looking forward to just living in Paris and being super independent. It’s definitely scary out here when you’ve never lived alone but it’s an experience that I couldn’t miss out on.
Q: What are you going to be missing back at home, as this is your first time living in a different country essentially?
A: E V E R Y T H I N G! I miss my family loads, my pets and English food! Sounds silly but sometimes you just want to eat the foods you know you love, instead I spend about an hour in the supermarket google translating everything
Q: As you have been in Paris a couple of weeks now, how are you enjoying it? Is it everything you thought it would be?
A: It’s definitely different to what I thought it would be but I’m having so much fun. With such a big change you never know what to expect but so far so good!
Q: Pros of working in Paris and cons of working in Paris?
A: Pros – the overall experience is insane. Not a lot of people can say they’ve done it!
Cons – missing home 😦 I’m such a home girl and I really miss it!
Q: When you got offered the chance to work at Disney, what was your first reaction to it?
A: I actually started crying! I was so overwhelmed I didn’t know what to do. I had no doubts about taking it.
Q: I know you recently came back from Florida Disney, i loved the vlogs, and it looked like you had an amazing time, what do you think the difference is between Paris and Florida?
A: Thank you! If you’re talking about the parks then the scales of them are TOTALLY different. In Florida you have 4 theme parks and 2 water parks, whereas in Paris you only have 2 theme parks! I definitely prefer working in Paris however the Disney parks in Florida are incredible.
Q: Any tips for moving out at 20 years old and being independent?
A: I think keeping yourself busy and being surrounded by friends at the start is good if you’re feeling homesick, but also give yourself time to rest! It’s a big jump so it’s going to take time so just chill and enjoy it!
Q: So i love your channel, i love how down to earth you are and how much you put into your content, why did you decide to make a channel?
A: Oh bless you! I had just finished college/sixth form and decided to take a gap year. At the time I was working at Waitrose and still dancing but I wanted another ‘hobby’ to keep myself busy. I’ve always wanted to start up a channel and I felt like it was a good time to!
Q: When did you first upload a youtube video?
A; My first video was uploaded on 2nd July 2017 and it was my prom vlog (not that any of my friends knew I was vlogging on that day!)
Q: When making your channel, who inspired you to make a channel?
A: I feel like I take inspiration from a lot of different people. I absolutely love Shane Dawson’s videos and I take a lot of inspiration from him on the ‘creative’ side of things like thumbnails etc. He’s definitely helped guide a lot of my choices I’ve made on the platform which I don’t think a lot of people would think as I create similar content to people like Saffron, Anastasia etc.
Q: What message do you want to relay to your audience when you are making content?
A: Ok I hate being cringe BUT I really love making people feel like they are enough. I think people get so lost in social media these days and are constantly comparing themselves, and I want to be that person who just rocks up and proves that not everything on Instagram is as it seems.
Q: So at the moment, you are currently on 57k subscribers, which is crazy, did you ever think you would be as successful on youtube when you first started out?
A: Oh my goodness I know! Honestly when I tell you that I NEVER expected my channel to grow the way it has I seriously mean it. As I said, I started youtube purely as a hobby. I never expected to hit 1,000 subscribers let alone 57,000! A massive thank you to anyone who has subscribed. It’s insane!
Q: Who would be your dream collaboration on your channel?
A: Definitely Shane Dawson.
Q: Main channel or vlogs? What do you enjoy creating and editing?
A: I feel like I always change my mind on this! Right now I prefer filming vlogs but I enjoy editing main videos as I can be more creative with how I edit it all.
Q: What in your eyes is the best video you have created and put out on youtube?
A: I think that my weight loss videos will always hold a special place in my heart. I know they haven’t got views like my 10,000 calorie challenge for example, but the amount of messages I got from those videos really warmed my heart. I love giving off positive vibes and just being positive in general and those videos have helped a lot of people.
Q: Tell me, what is an average ‘youtube’ day for you? What’s your routine?
A: Normally I’ll get up between 7am-7:30am, I’ll then spend about an hour-an hour and a half at the gym. Once I’m home I’ll start work which will be around 10ish. I normally work until 7pm (sometimes later depending on the day), which means I’ll be filming, editing, doing emails or more boring admin stuff and then that’s it!
Q: What is your biggest achievement in your youtube career-that you look back on?
A: I think my biggest achievement was hitting 50,000 subscribers. As I said, I never thought I’d manage to hit 1,000 so that was a pretty big milestone for me!
Q: As a smaller youtuber like myself, what would be your top tips to be able to grow a channel?
A: I always say I have 3 top tips. 1) Consistency – have an upload schedule and stick to it, if you can try to get 2 videos out a week. 2) Stay true to yourself – you can act how you like on camera and edit but you can’t do that in real life. 3) Enjoy it! – so many people start youtube for the wrong reasons and give up if they don’t get anywhere within a month. YouTube is an amazing platform and you need to persevere with it if you truly enjoy it.
Q: You have worked with a couple of brands, who would you say was the Best brand you have worked with and why?
A: It’s so hard to choose as they’re all so great! However, a brand I have an amazing relationship with is popsockets. They’ve gifted me some of their products which I love and they’ve also hosted giveaways with me. They’re such a caring brand and they also care about my subscribers which is also super important to me.
Q: If you could go back to your old youtube days, what would you tell yourself?
A: Not to care about what people think! I was so scared to upload my first video that I didn’t promote it on my social media because I knew all my ‘friends’ would laugh. I would’ve loved to start youtube earlier but I’m happy I managed to do it in the end.
Q: You’re very lucky in terms of being invited to events can you remember your First ever youtuber event?
A: My first ever event was actually a Jojo Siwa perfume launch brunch. I was honestly so scared to go to that, but I met my bestie Amber Knight there and I’m so happy I went!
Q: Best and worst thing about the youtube industry?
A: Best – being able to have some amazing opportunities and meet some incredible people. Worst – Some people aren’t always the nicest and you get exposed to ‘hate’.
Q: Since starting youtube, have you found some friends have distanced themselves and who is your closest youtube friend?
A: Yes definitely, I think people judge you a lot for doing youtube. My closet youtube friend is definitely Amber but also I’ve become super close to Evie who actually started off as a ‘viewer’ (sounds so weird calling her that). But she also does YouTube so I’m calling her another YouTube friend!
Q: What is in store for future videos? Have you got any projects lined up at the moment?
A: I don’t really have any solid plans for my channel and I like it that way! I think I’ve created a really versatile channel where if one day I want to film myself eating super healthy, exercising and sharing weight loss tips as well I can. But on the flip side I can also eat McDonald’s for 24 hours and my viewers will still enjoy it… I hope! I have a secret project I’m working on but I’m being a typical YouTuber and keeping it a secret. Sorry!
Q: What did your family think when you started a channel? Were they apprehensive or excited for you?
A: If I’m being brutally honest, at first I don’t think they really cared! No one in my family really watches YouTube before I started doing it so I don’t think they understood it all. They’re all super supportive of it now and I couldn’t be happier.
Q: And finally, what would you say to someone who wanted to create a channel?
A: I’d say just go for it! So many people (myself included) care too much what people will think of you. But at the end of the day the people who judge you also probably want to do it but are too scared. Go for it and I promise you won’t regret it!
Thank you so much for asking me again!
